Club Highlights for 2020

The 2019/20 winter got off to a very strong start with many sessions and excellent attendance, but the advent of Covid 19 in mid-March 2020 wreaked havoc with our programme, due the enforced closure of our venues and regional restrictions.
Membership increased to 138 v 125 last year, mainly due to the rise in Rollerski participants.
Individual and Family Membership fees unchanged for UK residents and Overseas £17pa or £24pa - includes Rollerski & Telemark Coaching (excludes Track fees, Rental or Lift passes).
More new Club Rollerski equipment, for the fourth consecutive year.
10 Telemark coaching sessions (Saturdays at Chill Factore).
6 Rollerski coaching sessions (Saturdays at UCLAN cycle track, Preston)
Competing in the British Telemark Championships Prolognan la Vanoise (Savoie, France).
A further 50 skiing sessions – (mornings at Chill Factore, twice weekly). Chill Factore re-opened on the 17th August 2020 and some members are free skiing again.
The Rollerski Tours and 4th hosting of the prestigious Snowsport England Skills Weekend (Salt Ayre, Lancaster) were Cancelled due to difficulties with Covid 19.
10th North West Telemark Festival (Chill Factore) was cancelled due to Cfe closure.
MCCSC website & Facebook, plus Snowsport England GoSki/GoBoard website Club and session activity entries Rollerski & Telemark continues to be updated.
Our On-Line booking system for Rollerski, Telemark Festival & Races has been very successful. Note there will be a change of vendor from Participant/Snowsport England to Ticket Tailor.
Our On-Line club membership system worked well last year and is being used for 2020/21.
New On-Line committee meetings, with new members, have proved to be very successful. The work on bringing the club administration up to current best practice continued with the publication of the Privacy Policy, new Welfare statement & Codes of Practice, plus new risk assessments including Covid-19. New Safeguarding section on the website. New post of Club Covid Officer created.
MCCSC 1st online AGM scheduled for Friday 20.11.2020 at 7.00pm Some of the points above to be covered.

Club Profile

Manchester Cross-Country Ski Club (MCCSC) was founded in January 1984 in Altrincham as a focus for people with an interest in cross-country skiing.

MCCSC is now a multidiscipline Nordic club for Cross‑Country, Roller and Telemark Skiers in and around Manchester and Preston, UK. Join in the fun with fellow free‑heelers in the North West of England and develop with free coaching for members (except the North West Telemark Festival).

MCCSC is proud of the strength and depth of its coaches and being one of the largest Cross‑Country club and the largest civilian Telemark club in England. Our common aim is to share and enjoy free‑heel skiing, bringing like-minded people together to ski, whether it be on a cycle track, road, indoor ski slope or the mountains.

Membership now covers a wide area of the North-West. MCCSC provides a range of activities including:
  - Roller ski courses on a purpose built cycle track (UCLan Sports Arena, Preston)
  - Roller ski tours
  - Roller ski racing
  - Telemark instruction (Chill Factore, Manchester)
  - Telemark racing (Chill Factore, Manchester)
  - Coaching Award Scheme to become an Instructor or Coach, in Roller, Cross-Country & Telemark skiing

Additionally the club has members who also take part in snow based cross-country ski activities abroad such as recreational and race skiing on prepared tracks, biathlon, telemark downhill skiing and hut to hut touring. Some members also take advantage of UK snow to explore Britain’s hills on skis.

MCCSC caters for a considerable variety of skiing skills and ability and welcomes beginners* and experienced skiers alike.

*Note that introduction to Telemark requires previous Alpine skiing experience.
